Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray inaugurated three vaccination centres run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Reliance Foundation on Monday.

He has appealed to private hospitals and institutions to come forward to provide free vaccinations. This will increase the number and speed of vaccinations, he said.

According to civic officials, about 1.5 lakh people will be vaccinated free of cost through the three vaccination centers inaugurated on Monday. Thackeray inaugurated the centres at Khambacha Pada in Aarey Milk Colony in Goregaon (East), Adarsh Nagar near Worli Koliwada and Pratiksha Nagar in Sion.

The entire vaccine stock and the manpower at Khambacha Pada Vaccination Centre has been arranged by the Corporation. The Reliance Foundation has provided free medical facilities to the doctors, nurses, staff and vaccines at the immunisation centers at Adarsh Nagar and Pratiksha Nagar, said civic officials.

While speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Thackeray said, “When we look at the number of vaccinations, we notice that Maharashtra is the first state in the country to have reached the stage where 1 crore people have been given both the doses. Unless everyone is vaccinated, no one is safe. Looking at the examples of other countries, it is necessary to wear a mask even after taking 2 doses of vaccine.”
