Mumbai sees a dip in Covid-19 cases, while figure rises in Maharashtra

Mumbai saw a marginal dip in new COVID-19 cases as 324 cases were reported on Thursday while there were nine deaths. The state saw 6,695 cases and 120 deaths. The city’s test positivity rate saw a marginal dip on Thursday as it went below 1 per cent at 0.94 per cent .


ON July 29, the TPR was 1.06 per cent. After registering a TPR above 2 per cent last on June 27, the city’s TPR had remained below the mark. The doubling rate dipped and was 1,591 days on Thursday. 


Of the nine deaths, seven patients had comorbidities, six deaths were in the age group of over 60 years and two deaths were reported in the age group of 40-60 years. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 315 people recovered and were discharged on Thursday.

After recording a significant dip in new cases and COVID-19 fatalities on Monday, the state saw a rise in new COVID-19 cases for the third consecutive day as 6,695 cases were reported. But the state reported 120 deaths, a marginally lesser number than Wednesday. 

The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent as 7,120 people recovered and got discharged on Thursday. Currently, the state has 74,995 active cases. 

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a marginal rise for the third consecutive day but the number of new cases remained below 1,000 on Thursday. As per the State’s report, 957 cases were reported in MMR including cases from Mumbai. 

Apart from Mumbai, Raigad with 172 reported the maximum new cases in MMR followed by Panvel with 101 cases. Navi Mumbai reported 68 new cases while Thane saw 65 cases and Vasai-Virar reported 32 new cases each on Thursday. 

MMR excluding Mumbai, registered 12 COVID-19 fatalities on Thursday. Panvel and Thane reported three deaths each, highest in the MMR after Mumbai. Raigad saw two deaths and Vasai-Virar, Thane Municipal Corporation, Ulhasnagar and Mira Bhayander reported one death each.
