Mumbai sees 68 Covid cases, dip for second consecutive day

Only 12 out of 26,044 hospital beds earmarked for Covid-19 treatment currently occupied Mumbai on Friday reported 68 Covid-19 cases, a dip from 98 on Wednesday, which was the highest for April so far, and 91 on Thursday, a civic official said. It took the tally in the metropolis to 10,59,141, while the death toll remained unchanged at 19,562, he said.


He said 44 persons were discharged during the day, which had taken the recovery count to 10,39,105, leaving the city with an active caseload of 474. So far, 1,68,26,035 samples have been examined, including 8,700 in the last 24 hours, he added. A Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation health bulletin said 65 of the 68 new cases were asymptomatic, while the remaining three had been hospitalised, though none of them needed oxygen support.


It also stated only 12 out of the 26,044 hospital beds earmarked for Covid-19 treatment were currently occupied. Civic data showed the recovery rate is 98 per cent, the positivity rate stands at 0.007 per cent, the caseload doubling time was 11,343 days and the overall case growth rate between April 15 and 21 was 0.005 per cent. It also revealed the country’s financial capital was free of sealed buildings and containment zones.


Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Friday reported 121 Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 78,76,503, while the death toll remained unchanged at 1,47,831, an official said. The addition to the tally and toll on Thursday was 179 and one respectively, he pointed out. So far, 77,27,855 persons have been discharged post recovery, including 66 in the last 24 hours, leaving the state with an active caseload of 817, he said.

State health department data showed that, as on Friday, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nandurbar, Latur, Osmanabad, Akola, Washim, Buldhana, Yavatmal, Wardha and Bhandara did not have any active case. It also revealed that the recovery rate was 98.11 per cent, while the examination of 26,313 samples in the last 24 hours had taken the overall number of tests in the state to 7,99,92,659.
