Mumbai on Tuesday saw a marginal rise in Covid-19 cases, but the figure remained below 300. However, it recorded the lowest fatalities due to the infection in the second wave at three. The city’s test positivity rate (TPR) also increased marginally on Tuesday but remained below 1 per cent.


For the first time on July 26 the cases dipped below 300. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 288 new cases were reported in the city. The TPR registered on Tuesday was 0.99 per cent. After registering a TPR of above 2 per cent on June 27, it remained below that.


The doubling rate has improved and was 1,555 days on Tuesday. Of the three deaths reported in the city, two patients had comorbidities, one death was of a patient above 60 years of age and two were of those in the 40-60 years group. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent and a total of 412 people were discharged after full recovery on Tuesday. After recording a significant dip in new cases and Covid-19 fatalities on Monday, the state saw a significant rise as 6,005 cases were reported on Tuesday, along with 177 deaths. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent as 6,799 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 74,318 active cases.  The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a marginal rise in new cases but the figure remained below 1,000. The region recorded 844 new cases on Tuesday.


Raigad reported 142 new cases in the MMR followed by Panvel with 81 cases. Navi Mumbai reported 53 new cases while Thane saw 52 cases and Vasai-Virar 28. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 18 Covid-19 fatalities on Tuesday. Thane Municipal Corporation saw five deaths, highest in MMR, followed by four deaths in Raigad. Thane and Vasai-Virar reported three deaths each. Panvel and Navi Mumbai saw one death each.
