Mumbai: Compulsory seat belts for drivers and passengers from November 1

In a statement the police said, as per the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, under section 194(b) (1) Whoever drives a motor vehicle without wearing a safety belt or carries passengers who are not wearing seat belts shall be punishable

The Mumbai Police on Friday said that seat belts will be compulsory for car drivers and passengers from November 1.
 
In a statement the police said, "as per the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, under section 194(b) (1) Whoever drives a motor vehicle without wearing a safety belt or carries passengers who are not wearing seat belts shall be punishable."

It further said, accordingly, to install seat belts in motor vehicles which do not have seat belts for drivers and all passengers, the period is being given till date November 1. For all motor vehicle drivers and passengers in vehicles, it will be mandatory for drivers and all passengers to wear seat belts while traveling.
