Mumbai: 20-year-old man dies after being stuck in Vikhroli highrise lift

A 20-year-old man was killed after allegedly being stuck in a lift of an underconstruction highrise building in Vikhroli, the BMC said in a statement on Wednesday. 


According to the civic body, four people had got stuck in a glass lift of ground plus 24 floor Siddhivinayak Society at Station Road in Vikhroli west on Wednesday afternoon. After the information of the incident was shared with the civic body, the officials rushed to the spot. 


Following the incident, the Parksite Police filed an FIR in the matter. Those booked by the police include- project head Amit Kumte, Sunil Tiwari, Rakesh alias Umesh Singh and others. They have been booked under IPC section 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 34 (common intention).


DCP (zone 7) Purushottam Karad said, "The building was developed under SRA project. The possession for the SRA building was given by the developer while work for saleable project was ongoing. On January 4, at around 1.15 pm, the work on the podium parking lift was going on when the pallet plate collapsed under which Shivkumar Jaiswal got crushed and was declared dead by doctors when rushed to hospital."

According to the police, on Wednesday morning, the work on a parking lift was going on. The lift suddenly collapsed in which some workers got trapped. Site officials immediately informed Mumbai Police Control Room who informed the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

“We managed to rescue two workers from the lift duct,” an official from Parksite Police Station said.

The BMC said, on arrival at the scene of the incident it was learnt that for male persons had got stuck inside a glass lift on the ground floor of the residential building. Out of four, these 3 had managed to safely come out from the lift by themselves. However the officials had to conduct a rescue operation of one person.

The BMC further in a statement said that the stranded person was rescued by the officials at the spot using rescue tools of rescue van and private crane. He was immediately rushed to the Rajawadi Hospital in a private vehicle. The man was later identified as Shivam Jaiswal, 20, who was declared brought dead by Dr. Anil Kumar – CMO of the Rajawadi Hospital.
