A sessions court in Mumbai convicted two former salon employees on Monday for the 2018 murder of their 28-year-old colleague, Kriti Vyas, whose corpse has never been located.

Additional Sessions Judge MG Deshpande convicted Siddhesh Tamhankar and Khushi Sahjwani guilty of murder and causing the loss of evidence under sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, respectively. The hearing on their sentence will be held on Tuesday, reported PTI.

According to the report, Tamhankar and Sahjwani, who worked as account executives and account managers at an Andheri salon chain, reported to Vyas, the financial manager. Vyas was allegedly slain after sending a memo to one of the accused for poor performance.

Vyas went missing on March 16, 2018. Her relatives reported her missing to the DB Marg police station after being unable to locate her using CCTV video from Grant Road and Mumbai Central railway stations. Vyas was last seen boarding the 9:11 am Virar-bound train from Grant Road in Andheri, the report added.

The PTI report further stated that the matter was moved to the Crime Branch, which apprehended Tamhankar and Sahjwani. Police solved the case using DNA testing on blood found in a car linked to one of the defendants and allegedly used in the crime.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a wanted history-sheeter with a reward of Rs 50,000 has been arrested in Mumbai. Sabbir Alam Hasim Uddin Shaikh, 35, was detained following a combined operation by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Kandivali Police Unit-11.

Sabbir Alam, a history-sheeter from Uttar Pradesh who lives in Dehalbari, Kishanganj, Bihar, is facing seven criminal proceedings, including allegations under the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act. According to officials, his criminal record includes instances from the Kotwali Nagar and Vijay Nagar police stations in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the officials, the operation began after the UP STF acquired accurate information about UP's history-sheeter's presence in Lower Parel, Mumbai. Despite his frequent changes of location, the squad, led by Inspector Sachin Kumar and Unit-11 officers, tracked him down after a ten-hour manhunt that included Antop Hill, Dharavi, and, finally, Shahu Nagar in Mahim East.
