The PTI report further quoted Raut saying that the two leaders spoke about the matter of Maratha quota demand and the state preparedness of the Opposition for upcoming Lok Sabha and state assembly elections scheduled to take place in 2024.
The meeting, which happened at Pawar’s Mumbai residence ‘Silver Oak’ on Tuesday, lasted for over one and a half hours, stated the report. Notably, Congress leaders were not present in the gathering as they were busy in election campaigns in five states which will be voting this year.
"Congress leaders were not present for the meeting since they are busy with election campaigns in the five states. Uddhavji and Pawar saheb discussed the political situation in Maharashtra after the agitation over Maratha quota demand and the stand that the opposition needs to take," Raut said.
"If the assembly elections in Maharashtra are held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls, what should be the strategy of the opposition and its seat-sharing formula was also discussed," the Sena (UBT) MP added.
Raut confirmed that a final meeting to consolidate the discussions will take place in Delhi and he further emphasized that the Maha Vikas Aghadi allies has a consensus among them and that the decision-making process shall proceed smoothly.
The MVA alliance comprises the Shiv Sena (UBT), Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and the Congress. Previously, these three parties, when Shiv Sena and NCP were undivided, were in power in Maharashtra from November 2019. However, Sena split vertically after Eknath Shinde's rebellion in June 2022 which also led to the fall of the MVA government led by Uddhav Thackeray. Shinde later ascended to the post of CM. Meanwhile, NCP leader Ajit Pawar and eight other MLAs also rebelled and joined forces with the Shinde government.
