Maharashtra: NCB busts interstate drug racket, seizes 3,600 Nitrazepam tablets, codeine syrup bottles in Thane, two held

According to the NCB, the network has its tentacles spread across multiple states, including Maharashtra, and Karnataka.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has made great progress in cracking down on an interstate narcotics conspiracy by apprehending two suspects at Thane's Kalyan railway station. The operation led to the confiscation of 3,600 Nitrazepam tablets and 270 bottles of Codeine syrup.


According to Amit Ghawate, Additional Director at NCB Mumbai, the syndicate operates in multiple states, including Maharashtra and Karnataka. The seizure was part of a coordinated effort to tackle drug trafficking, particularly ahead of the upcoming elections.


"In a closely coordinated operation, NCB has successfully delivered yet another cracking blow to the interstate drug syndicate, which has led to the seizure of 3600 Nitrazepam tablets & 270 bottles of Codeine syrup for which two persons, including the local distributor and his key associate, have been arrested," said Additional Director NCB (Mumbai) Amit Ghawate in a press statement on Friday.


The intelligence acquired revealed the syndicate's plan to import drugs into the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The investigation switched to a man named SS Khan, who was identified as the primary actor in obtaining illegal prescription drugs from outside Maharashtra for distribution.

NCB officials in Mumbai conducted a surveillance operation, which resulted in the identification of SS Khan and his partner M Khan, who had flown to Karnataka to buy drugs. On May 10, a trap was set at Kalyan Railway Station, resulting in the suspects' instant identification and interception upon arrival.

During the search, the NCB discovered the seized drugs, and both suspects admitted to procuring and selling the drugs in Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, and other locations.

One of the arrested people has a criminal record and is connected to a syndicate that has previously engaged in narcotics trafficking. The NCB is conducting a thorough investigation to locate and apprehend additional syndicate members, as well as dismantle the entire narcotics network.
