With heavy rain across Maharashtra and issues related to the state board server delaying the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) result work, teachers have now demanded extension of the result submission deadline. Earlier, the last date for completion of the result work was July 21, but it was extended to July 23. However, now the teachers have demanded a further extension.

Speaking to mid-day, Professor Mukund Aandhalkar, coordinator, Maharashtra State Federation of Junior College Teachers’ Organisations, said, “Heavy rain has led to major problems. Since Tuesday night the state board server, where teachers have to enter the marks, is facing technical issues. This will make it difficult for the work to be completed within the deadline.” The organisation has requested the government for a further extension of the deadline.

Aandhalkar added, “It is anyway difficult for teachers to reach their respective institutes for result-related work, especially in the urban parts of the state where transport has been severely affected. Over and above this, heavy rain in places like Mumbai and Thane has made it really difficult for teachers to commute. Furthermore, it is also leading to problems with Internet connections. Even the state board server was down from Tuesday night. It was restored on Wednesday afternoon after the teachers raised the issue. While the work has finally restarted, it is not likely to be completed by July 23.”

As per information provided by Aandhalkar, marks of 1 lakh students in Mumbai out of the total 3 lakh were yet to be uploaded on the server. He further said that the same figure for the whole state was 5 lakh out of the total 13 lakh students.

However, when contacted, secretary of the Maharashtra State Board, Dinkar Patil, said, “Initially the deadline was July 21 but it was later extended to July 23. About 82 per cent of the work is already complete and the remaining 18 per cent will be easily done within the deadline. In fact, maybe by tomorrow, it will be done. There is no need for a further extension.”
