On Thursday, police recovered Rs 47 lakhs in cash inside a car while conducting a regular inspection in Mulund's Vaishali Nagar area. Following the discovery, officials swiftly alerted the Income Tax Department and launched an inquiry stated an ANI report.

According to a report, as part of their duties during the election period, a Static Surveillance Team (SST) consisting of police officers and a magistrate conducted the check. Their responsibilities include tracking the transportation of illegal spirits, bribes, huge sums of money, weapons and ammunition, and antisocial elements.

SSTs are stationed at critical routes, and district and state boundaries, and their operations are documented on camera. In some sensitive regions, SSTs may comprise members of the Central Paramilitary Forces (CPF), the report added.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, SST officials seized Rs 45,90,000 in cash from a vehicle in Ramgarh, Jharkhand. An SST spokesperson stated that the currency was handed over to a Sales Tax team for further proceedings.

While the car's ownership remains undisclosed, the Sales Tax Department has informed the Income Tax Department about the cash seizure for further investigation and action.

An official of the Static Surveillance Team (SST) told ANI, "During a vehicle check by the Static Surveillance Team (SST) team in Ramgarh on Wednesday, currency notes to the tune of Rs 45,90,000 were recovered from a car."

"The seized amount was handed over to a Sales Tax team. The Sales Tax Department has since briefed the Income Tax Department about the cash recovery and the latter will decide on the further course of action after carrying out an investigation," the official further stated.
