A case has finally been registered in the delivery scam wherein Divya Dhaval Sandesara, a 34-year-old from Dahisar, was cheated by an online fraudster and a delivery boy under the pretext of delivering goods to another country. Dahisar police have booked Mudit Singh, the fraudster, and Rajnikant Tiwari, 20, a delivery person working with WeFast.

The development comes after mid-day published the story, Fake courier man dupes Dahisar woman of R42,500, on January 18. Earlier, Sub-Inspector Shivaji Narwade from Dahisar police refused to register the case against the fraudster and told Sandesara that they would only file a case if the amount lost is more than Rs 1 lakh. Sandesara told mid-day, “I am really thankful to mid-day for highlighting the delivery scam. This will also help others to be aware of this. I hope that this fraudster will be arrested soon.”
The incident started on January 4 when she was looking for packers and movers on JustDial to shift some household goods to another country in Asia. She then received a call from Singh, who said he was calling from Trinity International Courier and Cargo, Andheri, offering services to move the goods. He then sent a delivery boy, Tiwari, on January 5 to weigh the goods and decide on the price. Tiwari said he worked for We Fast and that the job of shifting the goods was outsourced to him. After weighing the goods, the charge for shifting was set at Rs 42,500, which Sandesara sent to Singh.
“I sent him the money online but he didn’t send any receipt. I later learnt that Tiwari had also lied as Singh had allegedly cancelled the booking made via We Fast and asked Tiwari to deliver the goods personally for Rs 1,200,” Sandesara said. She added, “When I called Singh the next day, he did not respond. When I cross checked, the company was found to be fake. I also called Tiwari, who said he made the delivery near Hub Mall as per direction.”
“I then approached Dahisar police on January 7, but PSI Narwade refused to file a case,” she said. Meanwhile on January 9, Tiwari returned the goods to her. Senior Inspector Pravin Patil of Dahisar police station said, “We have registered the case against online fraudster Mudit Singh and delivery boy Rajnikant Tiwari for allegedly cheating Divya Sandesara of Rs 42,500. We will call Tiwari and interrogate him. If we find his involvement in the scam, we will arrest him.”
