Covid-19: Mumbai’s new cases rise again, but stay below 200

After recording the second wave’s lowest daily cases on Monday, Mumbai saw a marginal rise, but the figure remained below 200 on Tuesday. The city, however, registered the second wave’s lowest test positivity rate (TPR) at 0.69 per cent and Covid-19 fatalities.


As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city saw 198 new cases and two deaths due to the viral infection. It was on April 11, 2020, when the city recorded 189 cases. The doubling rate has improved and was 1,986 days on Tuesday. 


Of the two deaths registered in the city, one was of a patient above 60 years of age and one of a person in the 40-60 years group. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent and a total of 304 people were discharged after full recovery. 


The state’s Covid-19 cases saw a marginal rise but the figure remained below 5,000. On Tuesday, 4,408 new cases were registered across Maharashtra. The state also saw a slight rise in the Covid-19 fatalities at 116. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.11 per cent as 5,424 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 61,306 active cases. 

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal rise in cases on Tuesday.  As per the state report, 493 cases were reported in the MMR region, including those from Mumbai. 

Apart from Mumbai, Raigad reported 79 new cases followed by 50 in Panvel. Thane reported 21 new cases while Navi Mumbai saw 40 cases and Vasai-Virar nine each. 

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered two Covid-19 fatalities on Tuesday.  Raigad and Navi Mumbai saw one death each.
