COVID-19: Mumbai again reports over 5,000 cases

The state recorded 36,902 new cases taking the total tally of Maharashtra to 26.37 lakh. The mortality numbers saw an increase in the past 24 hours as the COVID-related deaths recorded in the state were 112.

For the first time since the pandemic broke out, Maharashtra crossed the 36,000 -mark in a single day. Following the incessant rise in cases, the government will enforce night curfew across the state. The second wave of COVID-19 has led to a surge in cases and the city reported 5,513 cases on Friday.


The state recorded 36,902 new cases taking the total tally of Maharashtra to 26.37 lakh. The mortality numbers saw an increase in the past 24 hours as the COVID-related deaths recorded in the state were 112. 


Even the largest slum in Asia, Dharavi has been seeing a spike, and recorded about 58 cases on Friday. The MMR has crossed the 9,000 mark and recorded a total of 9,915 cases with the Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivli Corporation recording a spike in positive cases with 1,020, 694 and 794 reported there, respectively. 


The state’s recovery rate which has dropped, now stands at 87.2 per cent with 17,019 patients discharged. The total numbers of active COVID patients in the state are currently 2,82,451. 

Mumbai’s recovery rate too has dropped and stands at 87 per cent while the doubling rate has dropped due to increase in cases and now stands at 68 days. The total count of positive cases recorded so far is 3.85 lakh and the number of tests carried out so far is 38.88 lakh. The active cases now stand at 37,804 in the city.

Till date there have been 53,907 COVID-related deaths across the state. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,321 so far. These deaths are the cases where patients were positive and tested negative but later died due to other complications.

The highest number of deaths were recorded in Mumbai city at 10 deaths and followed by Nagpur with 9 deaths. MMR recorded a total of 19 death cases, including Mumbai. However, there was a discrepancy between the numbers of State and BMC. Civic officials said out of the 9 deaths that were recorded by the corporation, 7 patients were suffering from other ailments and 9 were senior citizens.
