Covid-19: Cases drop to 1,160 even as tests rise in Mumbai; TRP at 2.5 per cent

New COVID-19 cases in the city declined marginally on Sunday even after the number of tests increased. The city reported 1,160 new cases after conducting 46,307 tests with a test positivity rate of 2.5 per cent. On Saturday, the TPR was3.62 per cent. 


The city has been experiencing a gradual decrease in cases after it reached the peak on January 6 with 11,163 cases. Though the tests were on the lower side in the initial days of the week, on Saturday it crossed 46,000. The city reported 10 deaths. Eight of the deceased had comorbidities. While one of them was in the age group below 40 years, one was of 40-60 years, and the remaining were above the age of 60.


Around 87 per cent of the patients who tested positive on Sunday were asymptomatic and 160 people were hospitalised, 29 of them in oxygen beds. 


The recovery rate remained improved and was at 97 per cent as 2,530 patients were discharged. The doubling rate too improved to 375 days.

The state saw a marginal decline in the number of cases and drop in the number of deaths. As per the report, 22,444 new cases and 50 deaths were reported across the state.  

The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 1.85 per cent. A total of 39,015 people were discharged and active cases stood at 227,711 on Sunday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region registered 2,801 new infections. Raigad and Navi Mumbai reported 269 and 403 cases, respectively—highest in MMR after Mumbai. While Thane Municipal Corporation saw 262 cases, Vasai-Virar had 72 cases and Thane district had 109 cases. Other than Mumbai, the MMR saw five deaths. While Navi Mumbai reported three deaths, Raigad saw two deaths.
