The state and the city are crossing new highs almost every day when it comes to COVID-19 cases. On Saturday, Maharashtra registered over 49,000 cases in 24 hours, with Mumbai accounting for over 9,000 of them. Even mortality numbers are rising. In the last few days, the highest deaths of the last five to six months have been recorded. On Saturday, COVID-related deaths amounted to 277 deaths, taking the total to 55,656 deaths in all.


Meanwhile, even MMR recorded 15,989 cases, the highest so far. Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivli Corporation recorded a spike with 1,482, 1,327 and 12,78 cases respectively. The state’s recovery rate, which has dropped, now stands at 84.49 per cent with 37,821 number of patients discharged across the state. The total number of active COVID-19 patients in the state stands at 4,01,172 cases. The active cases in the city is now 62,187. Mumbai’s recovery rate, too, has dropped and stands at 83 per cent while the doubling rate has dropped owing to increase in cases and now stands at 44 days.


New Guidelines
The BMC states that as per new guidelines, those with mild symptoms of COVID-19 or those who are asymptomatic, have to be in quarantine for 17 days. While such patients can be discharged on the advice of the Medical Officer (Health) after 10 days, they will have to continue to quarantine if they test positive.
