To prevent instances of bird hits, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited tenders for supply and installation of the anti-bird disc and anti-bird nesting PVC net on Metro line 7 section between Ovaripada-Gundavali.

MMRDA is constructing the Dahisar to Andheri Metro line 7.

The authority has raised concern as the increasing number of pigeons, crows, black-shouldered kites can prove to be a hindrance for the upcoming infrastructure projects.

“To prevent bird hit incidents which can disrupt the operations of metro rail, we will install anti-bird disc and anti-bird nesting PVC net in Metro-7 along the entire stretch,” said Metropolitan Commissioner SVR Srinivas.

In 2014, an incident of bird hit was reported on the 11.04-km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro line, near Asalfa station. In 2019, a similar incident was reported between Ghatkopar and Jagruti Nagar metro stations.

The anti-bird disc, which is said to be a bird repellent, is installed close to OHE cantilevers in metros and railways at various locations in the country.

MMRDA plans to install anti-bird nets along the Metro corridor, as these help in keeping the birds away.
