The reason for the assault is yet to be ascertained, but preliminary investigations reveals that the victim, Nandini Deepak Goswami who is a Mira Road resident, had come for the darshan of 'Lalbaugcha Raja' and was trying to gate crash from the VIP entry, when she was caught and assaulted.
An officer from Kalachowkie police station, requesting anonymity, said, "The footages which have gone viral show only one side of the story – what happened inside the gate. But, in her attempt to get inside, Goswami misbehaved with those cops. She had been threatening them that she is a black belt in karate and had been abusing the three women constables constantly. So, the three women cops got angry and took her to the police station."

Every year, Lalbaug is hit with controversies. Just a day back, it was reported that a lady scribe was assaulted by Lalbaug workers. Also, a senior citizen died while she was standing at the queue for the feet-touching darshan.
