Palghar: Palghar Police on Thursday arrested an elderly man for allegedly killing a villager in the district.


Kashinath Vartha, 70, was held under alleged charges of murder of one Ladkya Khadke, 65, Inspector Ravindra Magar of Kasa Police Station said, adding that the two had a tiff over a long standing land dispute.


The incident took place yesterday when Kashinath went to see the victim at Dhontara village and picked up a quarrel with him over the land dispute.


In the heat of the moment, Kashinath attacked Khadke with an axe, he was carrying, on his neck, the officer said. Khadke died on the spot, he added. An offence has been lodged under IPC section 302 (murder) against Kashinath and further investigations are on, police said.
