No headway in priest murder yet

It has been almost two months since the murder of a 19 year-old priest within the premises of Nerul's South Indian Education Society (SIES) College, but the police is yet to make any headway in the case.

The victim, Abhinay Sharma, who worked as a priest in the Kamakshi temple within the college compound, and shared a room with the college cook Vaidyanathan Aiyyer Krushna Murthi (45) in the college campus, was found dead on November 7 with ligature marks (marks of strangulation) around his neck. The police suspect Murthi was involved in the murder since he was present in the room throughout the night of November 6, which is reportedly the night when Sharma was throttled to death.u00a0

According to the police, despite interrogating Murthi multiple times, nothing concrete has emerged. A brain mapping was reportedly conducted on the suspect and the police hope to have a report on it in another 15 days.

Yashawant Chavan, Police Inspector of Nerul police station, told Sunday MiD DAY, "We zeroed in on Murthi after interrogating a number of people known to the victim in the college knew. However, nothing concrete emerged from Murthi's interrogations. So we carried out brain-mapping test about a month ago. Once we get the report, we will be able to take the next step."
