The crime branch Unit 11 arrested an astrologer for allegedly abusing and demanding Rs 1 lakh from a 27-year-old woman working in a private firm. According to the police, the accused has been identified as Dr Mahavir Arjun Singh Rathod, a resident of Charkop.

Police said the accused met the complainant through one of her clients. Rathod told the woman that she would have difficult times ahead and gave her a ring with a brown stone. He also demanded Rs50,000 from the woman. However, police said that the woman did not have cash so she gave him a cheque, which bounced.

He then demanded Rs 1 lakh and threatened to send all her family members to jail if she did not pay.

Following this, the woman approached the crime branch and filed a complaint. When the accused was summoned, he did not arrive so the crime branch officers traced the accused and arrested him under the guidance of  senior inspector Chimaji Adhav, API Sharaz Zine and others.
