PAWS rescue two different Forsten's cat snake from Bhandup

Forsten's Cat Snake is the second largest among cat snake and is mildly venomous

On Thursday, Mumbai based NGO Plant and Animals Welfare Society - Mumbai (PAWS-Mumbai) and Amma Care Foundation (ACF) team rescued two different colour (black and brown) Forsten's Cat Snake from residential complex adjacent to closedown company GKW Ltd in Bhandup.


According to the team members, the NGO received a distress call from Security staff Jitendra Baviskar who is posted at MSEB Sub Station in Mahindra Splendour, Bhandup (West) informing about the cat snake. Without wasting any time, PAWS-Mumbai ACF volunteer Nisha Kunju and Tanmay Kolte rushed to spot and rescued 2.5-foot long Forsten's Cat Snake which is brown in color and which was on a plant pot near MSEB Sub Station.


In another distress call, PAWS-Mumbai ACF volunteer rescued black color Forsten's Cat Snake, around 3 foot long, which was fallen from a tree on a pot near the main gate of Mahindra Splendour. Security person, Anil Shinde kept a watch on the movement of the snake till the rescue team reached the spot.

"After informing the forest department, the two snakes were taken to Veterinary Dr. Rahul Meshram for medical examination and were later relocated into their natural habitat," said Honorary Wildlife Warden and Founder of NGO Sunish Subramanian.

It may be noted that Forsten's Cat Snake is the second largest among cat snake and is mildly venomous. At a whopping 91 inches (231 cm) maximum recorded length, it is the largest of all the cat snake in India.
