Everyone knows that a bar is the best place to meet the best of people. Like the elegantly-dressed Neena Jhanjee who looked like she had just stepped down from the catwalk.

At the Stoli lounge at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2014 at Grand Hyatt on Thursday we heard that this lovely lady, based in Goa, has been busy putting together bespoke luxury getaways, such as global culinary tours, for other lovely ladies who want a break from their partners, and would like to venture out with women of the same bent of mind.
Meanwhile, good old retro music played and wineman Ashwin Deo was thrilled that the songs were from his time. As a younger guest remarked, songs with melody and lyrics will never die. Later, spotted at the lounge was lady long legs Anushka Manchanda and lady-in-blue Rashmi Nigam. People-spotting has been the order of the day (and
night) at this lounge.
Bollywood babes Kangana Ranaut and Kalki Koechlin have been spotted here, both making their very own style statement. Kalki had her quirky headgear, making heads turn, and Kangana was seen once again, this time on the catwalk, strutting her silvery stuff for Dorothy Perkins.

Saying ‘no’
EN ROUTE to Dadar station, one of our colleagues spotted this banner on a building façade. In the run-up to the elections, a group called the Azad Hind Foundation reminds people that they have the “right to reject”.
We can elect neither chief minister, nor prime minister, nor president — then what kind of democracy is this, it asks. Well, the fact is that we need credible choices. Maybe the time has come for TINA (There Is No Alternative) to be redefined as “There Is (a) New Alternative”.
Wisden wises up
THE Chronicles section of the second edition of Wisden India Almanack mentions a story published in mid-day last April when we pointed out that the Sachin Tendulkar wax model in Madame Tussauds, Sydney has the wrong India jersey — a 2012 World T20 shirt — which the batting maestro never donned in his illustrious, 24-year international career.
Wisden reported: “Madame Tussauds admitted to the rather embarrassing gaffe and changed the figure’s kit to reflect Tendulkar’s crowning glory with a 2011 World Cup India jersey.”
Food of friendship
THE leader of the ruling party and the leader of the opposition are, well, rivals. Right? Wrong, when it comes to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Opposition leader Devendra Amberkar and leader of the house Yashodhar Phanse are known to be childhood pals, and part of a common group of friends. When a BMC employee organised lunch in the office recently to celebrate his birthday, the two were seen chatting away over chicken biryani and tandoori chicken. Moreover, the rivals-on-paper come from the same BMC ward, K-west. Now that is as sweet as the sheera which rounded off the meal!
Dutt silence, naturally
A CALL to Sanjay Dutt’s representative about a possible interview with Dutt, who is out of prison on parole, evoked the response that the actor is “not giving any interviews”. When asked about what ailment exactly his wife Maanyata actually suffers from, there was no answer. Silence is golden — and sometimes convenient.
