Two thieves were arrested by cops who were fleeing after snatching a man’s mobile phone, worth Rs 10,000 at Mulund Railway station. As soon as they snatched the mobile phone, the man raised an alarm, prompting cops at Navghar police station, who were at another end of the railway station to nab the thieves on the spot.

On February 15, Kumar Devkar, a Bandra resident who runs a catering service, had gone to Thane. While returning, Devkar was dropped by his friend at Mulund Railway station at around 12.30am. "While he was reaching station one person pushed him. "While Devkar was struggling to hold his mobile phone, another person came from behind and snatched it from his hand," said an officer from Mulund Police station.

Both thieves then jumped into the tracks from Mulund (W) and started running towards the East end of railway station. Devkar tried to chase thieves but stopped when he saw them crossing tracks. "However he screamed for help. Navghar cops who were sitting at the chowki just outside railway station heard his scream and sprang into action," told officer from Mulund Police station.

The cops immediately started chasing the thieves and nabbed them. Both the accused were handed over to Mulund Police station. "We have arrested Mukesh Gupta (25) and Suraj Gupta (23) red-handed. We have also recovered the stolen mobile phone," told Ravi Sardesai, senior inspector at Mulund Police station, adding that both thieves reside in Indira Nagar and are unemployed. The two men have been booked under IPC section 392 (theft) and 34 (common intention).
