Father enraged, as no medical aid was available for nearly 40 minutes

Grant Road station was astounded by the cries of a newborn last night at around 10 pm. Naseem Jahan (36), gave birth to a boy at the station, after she alighted with her husband since she went into labour in the train.u00a0u00a0


The couple, residents ofu00a0u00a0 Nallasopara, were heading to J Ju00a0 Hospital when Jahan started experiencing convulsive pains, and they decided to alight at Grant Road.




According to her family, there was no ambulance at the station, and Jahan did not get any medical attention for nearly 40 minutes, while she was grieving with pain during labour.

Helpful workers

Niyaz Ahmed, Jahan's husband, said, "I am very angry that there was no medical aid available during an emergency. However, I am grateful to the railway workers, who helped my wife deliver the child."
The mother and the newborn were later admitted to Nair Hospital.

Earlier in the day, the couple had visited J J Hospital for a check-up and the doctors had asked them to come for a sonography on March 23, said Niyaz.

"In the evening at around 7 pm, Jahan was feeling uneasy so we decided to head back to the hospital. However, she delivered before we could reach J J Hospital."u00a0The couple has two children, Mehernish (8) and Abdul Rehman (6).
