Chhota Rajan aide's fake encounter: Maharashta govt stays punishment of 11 accused policemen

The Maharashta government, under the special right, stayed the punishment awarded to eleven accused policemen in the fake encounter case of Chhota Rajan aide Ramnarayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya, who was picked in 2006 and later killed by the police at point blank range


Twenty one people were arrested in the case, of which thirteen were policemen. Encounter Specialist Pradeep Sharma, who was initially made an accused, was later acquitted in the case. But twelve policemen were convicted, and given life imprisonment by the Sessions Court in 2013.


The state government, hearing the application of eleven policemen, put a stay on the punishment awarded to them for next six months. Now, senior inspector Pradeep Suryvanshi is the only accused policemen in the case, who is behind bars.


About the case

Ramnarayan Gupta was picked up from his house in Vashi in November 2006, and killed in Versova by the policemen in a fake encounter, alleged his brother after which the policemen were arrested.
