Following complaints filed by constable Sunil Jaggnath Tibe, 34, and several other cops regarding demands of bribe at Bombay Hospital, the Mumbai police have sent a show cause notice (copy with mid-day) to the hospital.

According to the notice, issued by DCP (headquarter) N Ambika, Tibe had met with an accident in 2014 after which he had to undergo a knee surgery at the hospital. While he was supposed to receive the treatment free of cost under the Maharashtra Police Kutumb Arogya Yojana, the surgeon demanded R1 lakh bribe from him to carry out the procedure. The doctor had even told him that if he wanted a proper surgery, then he should pay the money.

The notice further mentions that the government pays for cops' medical treatment under the Kutumb Arogya Yojana, hence they can avail the facilities free of cost.

Police have also stated that the doctor told Tibe, "The money provided by the government under the scheme goes directly to the hospital trust and we don't get any of it. If you want the surgery to be done properly, then pay R1 lakh."

The notice also mentions that many officers have made similar complaints in the past. While Tibe refused to comment, PRO of Bombay Hospital, Dr Sagar Sakale, was unavailable for comment.
