'The Woods Are Still Green' to be opening film at Jagran Film Festival

The 5th Jagran Film Festival, Mumbai 2014 to open with an Austrian film 'The Woods Are Still Green' written and directed by winner of several International Best Film awards, Marko Nabersnik

Mumbai: As the city's most eagerly awaited film festival, the 5th Jagran Film Festival, Mumbai 2014 draws closer, it has been revealed that this edition of the festival will open with the film,“The Woods Are Still Green”.


It's an Austrian feature film written and directed by winner of several International Best Film awards, Marko Nabersnik.


The Woods are Still Green, is an anti-war drama set during the First World War. The film was selected for the main competition section "The Golden Goblet Award" at 17th Shanghai International Film Festival. This edition of Jagran Film Festival strongly focuses on world peace.

Besides, screening 'The woods are still green' which released in Austria on 12 September, the Jagran Film Festival presents a special section on the anniversary of the First World War with a fine selection of classic and contemporary cinema depicting the havoc and horrors of the First World War.

About The Woods are still Green: A story about a group of Austria-Hungarian soldiers in the 1st World War. They hold an artillery post in the mountains on the southern front to Italy. The group is cut off from their own troops and under heavy artillery fire from the Italian. When the post receives a fatal direct hit from a shell, killing the comrades, Soldier Jacob Lindner and the seriously injured captain Jan Kopetzky are the only survivors of the post. Jakob has to suffer the madness of this hellish war in all its human atrocities.

Talking about the selection, the Festival’s Strategic Consultant, Manoj Srivastava says, "Wars have played havoc with human lives since time immemorial. Millions of lives have been lost. Innumerable amount of money has been spent on wars and preparedness for wars. The world realized the importance of peace lost World War 2 and renewed its efforts to ensure durable peace. The year 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the First World War. It’s that moment of time in our lives where we need to revisit the horrors of war so that we understand and value world peace and its benefits."

"The theme is so important to our philosophy that we decided to select this particular film as the opening film to set up the tone for the film festival season which begins in Mumbai," says Basant Rathore, Vice President, Jagran Group.

Conceptualized to bring world-class cinema to its intended audience, the festival will be held from the 22nd September to 28th September, 2014 at PVR, Andheri and Cinemax Versova.

Entry to watch the opening film on 22nd September, 2014 is by invite only. The film will be screened for public viewing on 23rd September, 2014 at 1pm in Screen 5, PVR Andheri.
