The Ulhasnagar police have filed an FIR after a dog and her 2-month-old puppy were hanged from a tree. The case was filed on the complaint of a teacher who was helped by an NGO. Complainant Shrishti Chugh suspects the role of a local politician in the killing of the dogs.

Chugh, a resident of Ulhasnagar-2 and also a final year law student, said she learnt about the dogs’ death through a viral video.

As per Chugh’s complaint which was filed at the Hill Line police station around 10 pm on Wednesday, a few locals tied a rope around the neck of the dogs and hanged the animals from a tree. They also filmed the crime, said her complaint.

“I also have a dog at home. After coming across the video, my husband and I searched in the area for 2 hours but we could not find the carcasses. The next morning, we again kept searching. To our shock, we found a municipal worker taking to carcasses to a garbage truck for dumping. When I told them that the dogs were killed and they should not dump the bodies, they said they were following the orders of a local politician,” Chugh told mid-day.

Chugh said she reached out to Lata Parmar, the president of NGO People For Animals following which PFA’s Mohit Chawan rushed to the spot.

“They took me to the police station. We then rushed to the dumping ground with the police and found the bodies which were sent to an animal hospital in Badlapur for post-mortem. We strongly suspected that the local politician got the dogs killed apparently because she had bitten someone. The culprits should be arrested,” Chugh said.

Parmar also said, “We suspect a woman politician ordered her party workers to kill these dogs.”

An officer from Hill Line police station said, “We have registered a case under IPC sections 429 [animal cruelty] and 11a [torturing of an animal]. We are to identify those involved.”
