The Bangurnagar police on Thursday arrested a driver who allegedly fled with Rs 47 lakh from a businessman in July. According to police sources, the accused, identified as Sharanpa alias Sachin Kurhade, was arrested from Malad, however, the stolen amount is yet to be recovered. The complainant, a Pune-based businessman, visited Malad in July to buy land for his former driver. Kurhade had replaced him.


In Malad, the complainant along with Kurhade had gone to a hotel for breakfast, when he left the bag containing Rs 47 lakh in the car. After some time, the complainant asked Kurhade to get the car ready. The accused parked the car at the back of the hotel and fled with the bag containing Rs 47 lakh.


When the driver did not return, the complainant found looked for and found the car. However, the bag was missing. He rushed to Bangurnagar police station and filed a complaint, said an officer. “We have registered a case against Kurhade. During investigation, it has been revealed that the accused, after stealing the money, called a woman, and fled to Madhya Pradesh, Solapur and Karnataka. On learning that he was heading for Malad, the police set a trap and arrested him on January 13. He was produced in court and remanded in police custody,” the officer added.
