Mumbai Police apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals for staying in the country without valid documents during a raid in south Mumbai, an official said on Tuesday, reported the PTI.

The police also nabbed two others who were helping the duo stay in the country illegally, he said.

Based on a tip-off, the crime branch conducted a raid in the Nagpada locality on Monday and arrested Bangladeshi nationals, Subana Abdul Aziz Mandal (27) and Akhi Abdul Mandal (24), who did not possess valid documents for staying in the country, the official said.

The other accused, Mumtaz Shafi Sheikh (60) and Iqbal Ilai Shaikh alias Farukh (42), were allegedly helping them, he said.

The official said the men were arrested under relevant sections of the Passports Act and Foreign Nationals Act.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, two Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by the Navi Mumbai Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly staying in India illegally, an official revealed on Sunday, reported PTI.

According to the report, the two offenders, both 24 years old, were apprehended on Friday in Khidukpada hamlet in Nadve, Panvel, according to a cyber police statement.

ATS personnel assessing in the Khidukpada region spotted the two people living in a chawl. When questioned, they were unable to provide any valid documents proving their presence in the nation.

Although the arrested individuals had Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, and driver's licences in their names, they were unable to show the necessary papers establishing their legal status in India.

A case was filed against them on Saturday under the Passport (Entry into India) Rules-1950 and the Foreigners Act.

According to the official, local police have launched an inquiry into the arrestees' activities and any potential connections to illegal immigration networks.

Last year, the Navi Mumbai police have arrested four Bangladeshi nationals, working as masons and construction workers, for living in the country without valid documents, an official had said.

The police's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested the men during a raid at Khairane village around 7 am on Saturday, the official had said.

The men, Kamal Riyaz Choudhari (41), Kamrun Kamal Choudhari (19), Sohel Afrar Khan (24) and Alamgir Oli Kiryara Sheikh (38), did not possess any valid documents to reside in the country, the police had earlier said.

An offence under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Passport (Entry into India) Rules 1950 and The Foreigners Act of 1946 has been registered against the arrested accused, the official had said.
