Accused Amir Imtiyaz Munsh

A 31-year-old sales manager was arrested by the DN Nagar police for allegedly providing e-pass for inter-district and inter-state travel with the help of a government official from Thane collectorate.

The accused, identified as Amir Imtiyaz Munshi, used to work as a sales manager. However, during lockdown, he started making e-passes with the help of the government employee, who is absconding.

The accused is believed to have provided around 300 passes and charged Rs 400 for each pass.

Based on the information received by Additional Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, the DN Nagar police team laid a trap and caught him. “We sent a dummy customer and made payment through Google pay to catch him. But he remained untraceable for a few days. Later, he was nabbed from his residence in Mira Road,” said Bharat Gaikwad, senior police inspector.

Munshi has been arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including cheating and forgery.

During the investigation, the police found out that for every pass, Munshi used to keep Rs 100 and give Rs 300 to the government employee from Thane colletorate. “We are verifying how the e-passes were made, were they genuine or fake, were original documents used or not, and which software was used to make the passes,” Gaikwad added.

The police suspect that he might have issued e-passes during the first lockdown as well.
