The accused have been remanded to police custody till February 9.

The Malad police arrested three people for allegedly cloning debit cards and withdrawing lakhs of rupees. The accused, identified as Dharmendra Kumar Singh, Dhruv Paul and Manish Naresh Kumar, worked in bar, restaurant and petrol pump. They used skimming devices to clone the customers’ cards and withdrew money from other states using the cloned cards.

Dharmendra Kumar Singh worked as a waiter at Jashn bar in Borivli East, Dhruv Paul worked as cashier at Sur Sangeet bar and Manish Naresh Kumar helped these two in card cloning and withdrawing money from Bihar.

According to police officials, Rakesh Ramprasad Vishwakarma, a resident of Chincholi Bunder in Malad West, had filed a complaint at Malad police station in August 2019. He alleged that Rs 1 lakh was withdrawn from his SBI account. Vishwakarma also told police that he received five massages of Rs 20,000 transactions each.

“We received a tip-off that a waiter at Jashn bar has a skimming device. Under the supervision of senior inspector Dhananjay Ligade, API Vevek Tambe and his team detained the waiter. One laptop, five blank debit cards and several PIN numbers written by the customers were seized from his possession,” said the police.

All the accused were arrested under Sections 419 and 420 of the IPC and Section 66 of the IT Act. They were produced before the court on Saturday and remanded to police custody till February 9.
