A year-long series of events aims to give a leg-up to artistes and performers of all hues after a tough lockdown

Spotlight on creativity

Nucleya will be part of a panel discussion on the second day of the series

It seems like such a cliché to say that the creative industries took a hit during the pandemic last year that we’d rather say that it was bruised and battered like a boxer’s face the morning after he’s been knocked out in a fight. But, to extend the metaphor, 2021 will hopefully see the same boxer’s hand being picked up by the referee at the end of a match. Things have slowly started picking up again in the creative sector, and a year-long series of events titled Culture Connects aims to increase that momentum.

Culture curators Wild City have organised it in association with the American Embassy in New Delhi and US-based digital innovators Mutek.SF. The programming is such that it encompasses a wide range of events themed on the intersection of the arts and technology, featuring a mix of performers and industry insiders. The first of these — a panel discussion on how millennials and centennials approach the world differently, and a multimedia performance by the artiste Kayan — will kick off on February 24, with the aim being to have at least one event a week being held either on-ground at the American Embassy in New Delhi or online, till December 31.

Wild City co-founder Munbir Chawla adds, “It’s no secret that everyone suffered during the pandemic. But it’s the small companies and freelancers within the creative industry who were hit the hardest. Yet, they were also the ones who innovated more and became game-changers. We want to shine a spotlight on them. The intent is for us to help the creative industries grow.” And that, really, is the need of the hour, given the knockout blow that the sector received last year.

Starts February 24, 4 pm
