Bandra’s new cloud kitchen that serves Asian street food-style meals on the go meets our expectations for its wholesomeness and variety

Noodles

While checking out the menu, this reviewer felt it was an honest attempt by the owners who seemed to know their Asian noodles, sauces and ingredients enough to run a cloud kitchen dishing out street-style food. That’s because Wok And Roll’s menu engineering is smart, and it tugs at the right chords of balanced flavours and common cravings. We liked how there’s enough options for customisation in their wok box ('320 for medium). From choice of protein to rice and noodles or flat noodles; select sauces, veggies and toppings — the options were aplenty. All of it packed in a box, it was good to see that it wasn’t too greasy but at the same time, it did run a risk of seeming dry after the commute from Bandra to Kurla to reach us.

The Chandni Chowk style chowmein Wai Wai noodles (Rs 195) was unpretentious and exactly as the name suggests — spicy, somewhat greasy with the noticeable desi-Chinese red tinge and absolutely lip smacking! It was perfect to satiate our desi-Chinese street-food cravings. We are also spoilt for choice with their wide selection of noodle options, ranging from Korean, Indonesian to Indian-style Wai Wai and a few other varieties of instant noodles where each is given a unique spin. Think Wai Wai noodles in Italian white sauce or shin ramyun in spicy Thai peanut or the plain Samyang 2x spicy hot chicken flavour ramen with a Wok and Roll spin to it. We tried the crispy chicken roll (Rs 270) wherein each box had a set of two rolls but we thought it would have been nicer if we were allowed to select from two different flavours than one. The wrap was too thick but soft and we found the sauce a tad too sweet for our liking. Some fillings of greens would have packed in a punch.

Because the food arrived from a cloud kitchen, our expectations from the momos were comparatively low, and as expected, the classic chicken momos (Rs 169) and cheesy corn momos (Rs 189) were ordinary. The usual culprits were the thick covering and dry filling but the accompanying local Tibetan-style chutney was well-made, glazed, and stood out from the rest. We even found a star anise in it, which is used in authentic recipes.

The kitchen took 45 minutes to prepare the order and the food had arrived relatively hot in packaging that was quirky, bright and eye-catching. The lemongrass iced tea and peach and passionfruit iced tea (Rs 160 each) we ordered to wash down the food with came in reusable sippy cups. The flavours were refreshing but it didn’t wow us. These folks do quick and easy Asian food, and if you fall under the delivery radius, it’s wort a try.
