A new resto-bar in the suburb of Mulund offers crowd-friendly fare and a well-priced drinks menu

Food review: This new resto-bar in Mulund promises a little bit of everything

The classic California roll

In a suburb where there are probably only a couple of bars, forget good ones, the Pinterest-ey façade and signage of Lyke All Day Eatery and Bar in Mulund immediately catches our eye. Lyke comes from the owners of The Food Studio (located just down the road) and their food menu promises a little bit of everything, from pho to naan bombs. The alcohol prices are enticing too.

Veg dragon roll were prepared live at the sushi bar

We drop by on a weekday and notice that most tables are occupied; their upper level has a private do. They also host live music performances. A bar occupies the centre of the ground level and there is an open sushi bar where you can see your rolls being rolled. The interiors are glossy, full of textures and colours, and offer many photo spots for the Gram, a design aesthetic we have been seeing at many Andheri-Bandra spaces.

The bar menu offers typical classic drinks at enticing prices (Rs 359 for a margarita and Rs 279 for beer, all prices exclusive of taxes). We call for Our own LIIT (Rs 459), which turns out to be a basic fizzy cocktail made of whisky, gin, elderflower, ginger and soda. We move our attention to the food menu as we sip on the drink and call for the veg dragon roll (Rs 399 for four pieces), classic California roll (Rs 499) and purple chicken coriander dumpling (Rs 359) for starters.

Seated right at the sushi bar, we see them prepare our dishes quickly. The dumplings come in an eye-catching purple colour and are generously stuffed with delicately spiced chicken. The sushi portions are generous too, and our attendant tells us they also have offers for eight pieces (great for large groups).

Made just how classic recipes should be, we finish our appetisers quickly and choose our mains excitedly — veg Korean kimchi rice (Rs 399) and chicken tikka matka curry (Rs 399). The service is quick and the portions of both the dishes are large. The matka curry has a spicy-smoky fragrant aroma while the boneless chicken chunks are cooked perfectly, which we scoop with chilli garlic naan (Rs 110). The rice tastes great on its own, but we recommend you order a curry with it for a full meal.

Good food portions, a crowd-pleasing menu and VFM drinks might turn Lyke into a popular new bar haunt in Mulund. Nuanced cocktails will elevate the experience.
