Falafel Shawarma and Oreo Nachos at Cairo Grill

After a while, you realise that Cairo Grill isn’t exactly experimental or out-of-the-box but makes for a smart takeaway option, especially if you’re in a rush. Located at the end of the road that houses a popular fast food eatery off Linking Road, the outlet is easy to spot.

The Falafel Shawarma (Rs 140) was a delish start. The Falafels were soft and flavourful, and better than most others we’ve tucked into. The Smoked Chicken Shawarma (Rs 150) was regular fare; thankfully, the meat was well done. What works for Cairo Grill’s shawarmas is that the sauces and pickled veggies are not stuffed in excess; the proportions were just right. The Humus (Rs 175) wasn’t too different from what is already available in the market. The Combination Rice (Rs 295), a mix of chicken and lamb in basmati rice and lettuce, tasted good but was greasy.

Next, we picked French Fries purely for its interesting name: Fries With Benefits (Rs 110). Though there couldn’t possibly be any health benefits for this one, as the fries were topped with cheese. All the sauces and dips that were given to us in tiny transparent containers sealed with cellotape were very good. The white sauce was our favourite to go with the fries; so was the hot sauce, whichwhen added to the hummus, gave it a totatlly different flavour.

The Oreo Nachos with Toffee Sauce (Rs 150) was a creative sounding dish as well. Try it. Carry cash if you’re planning to drop by as soon as you’ve read this review, as the card machine has been ordered but hasn’t arrived yet. We arrived early so we didn’t have to wait but there was quite a crowd soon after. Cairo Grill delivers in Bandra and Khar. It’s convenient to drive down and order in your car as well. That part of the lane is quiet, with ample space for parking.
