A new food portal offers preservative-free food delivered to your doorstep, yummy pop-ups and sundry culinary experiments

Preservative-free chocolates that come in wrappers too beautiful to open and fresh sauces that are bursting with flavour — it’s possible to shop for all this at the click of a mouse. TGFC — The Gourmet Food Co works towards meeting fresh food cravings with recipes made in small batches. Started by 32-year-old banking technologist Shriyanka Hore, the website was a result of her own search for preservative free food. “When I was expecting last year, it was difficult to find preservative-free food. Home chefs and food entrepreneurs who prepare products with two to six weeks shelf life, don’t find space at chains that offer products that last for 18 months,” says Hore. While she survived by eating goodies prepared at home by her mother-in-law and relatives, the lack of selling space for small enterprises led to the birth of TGFC.

What's on the table?
On offer are butters, chutneys, sauces and pastes for rice and pasta, dips, snacks made on order, tea, jams and salad dressings. TGFC also offers branding, licensing and other consultation for those wishing to launch their own food label. For chefs currently selling on the website, they have a profile section that lets you know the story of the people behind the products you buy. They offer delivery within 48 hours.

What sets TGFC apart is its tie-ups with food studios in the city, for whom they serve as a ticket place and conduct specialised workshops designed for the site in the future. One such pop-up scheduled for this weekend is Zalavari Zalso, where Nina Doshi of Nina’s Kitchen will host a lunch with 18 items that are specialities of the Zalavari community of Gujarat. The products are also available on the website.

For the near future, Hore has plans to add cold desserts and cheese to the list. “I want to concentrate on traditional legacy food of India too. We will be launching bhut jolokia and chilli bamboo shoot pickles today,” says Hore. Piping hot, fare this!
