A cat eats ripe coffee cherries but cannot digest the hard seeds. Later, a cup of coffee -- famous for a rich, frothy flavour -- is made from the same seeds taken from the cat's droppings and costs an unbelievable 70 pounds (about Rs. 5,700)!

Dubbed one of the most expensive cups of coffee in the whole of Britain, the coffee will soon go on sale at a London restaurant, said the Daily Mail.

The Kopi Luwak coffee -- produced on the Indonesian island of Sumatra -- is made after the beans are extracted from the droppings of the native palm civet, a cat-like creature. The animal digests the fruit pulp and excretes the coffee beans on the forest floor.

The droppings, combined with the cat's gastric juices, are said to be the key to the coffee's rich, frothy flavour.

The beans are extremely rare and only around 200 kg per year are harvested. Exactly seven grams are weighed before being brewed and poured into a cup.
