Festivals now are not the only place where you can catch the latest indie films. Before its release on December 16, Azaad directed by Rahul Chittella, will be screened at antiSOCIAL today.

The screening is a part of Peepshow, an initiative that will screen indie cinema in feature, short and documentary formats. Lights On Films, an independent production house in Mumbai, and antiSOCIAL will be curating the films.

The 30-minute film is a part of an anthology of seven films titled, Shor Se Shuruat. Produced by Antara Banerjee and Naved Farooqui, Azaad has been presented by Mira Nair. It is set in contemporary times and is about the dysfunctional relationship between a son and father, which unfolds 48 hours after the father goes missing. The film features national award-winning actor, Atul Kulkarni, in the role of the father.

Chittella believes that the initiative would give an impetus to independent filmmaking. "Even after the big release, a film reaches out to a lot more people through the small screen. It is thus a great platform for feature and documentary makers with the added advantage of an opportunity to interact with the audience," he says.
