Chunky silver jewellery doesn't pair well with every outfit, as Taapsee Pannu found out recently. Here's how to nail a rustic look.

Classy and chic

  • Opt for a deep shade — olive, green, maroon and blue work, though brown is ideal. Pick a skirt or dress and jacket in the similar shade of the colour but a different texture.
  • Don't go for a fitting outfit. A dress that cinches at the waist with a bomber jacket is ideal.
  • Pair this with no-frills dark coloured boots.
  • Embrace the chunky but ditch the silver. Wear bronze accessories instead, with minimal detailing. Your make-up should be slightly bronze or nude.

  • Pick a loose fit — an overlarge option with baggy pants work best.
  • Pick a light shade like brown, red, yellow, blue, green — they all work as long as it's not too loud and more on the subtler side.
  • Avoid suede or silk.

Splash of colour

  • If you want something bright, then opt for a patterned multi-coloured option — a long dress, jumper, palazzo pants and ganji are all combinations that work.
  • Braid your hair to add a bit of a retro vibe to the look.
  • A belt with a chunky clasp is a must. Make sure it's not too flashy. Accessorise with large earrings and rings in oxidised silver.

  • A sombre lehenga choli or palazzo set will look great if you pair it with a shrug in a matching shade. Bronze with red or maroon with olive look great. Make sure it's not blingy, though some sheen might work too.
  • Pair this with open-toed non-blingy flats.
  • Let your hair down or wear it in a low, messy bun.
  • Accessorise minimally and if you are up for jhumkas, make sure it's not too chunky.
