How did the idea emerge? Why pick Big B and your wife as subjects for the portraits?
Big B is an iconic personality and my wife is my muse.

What role has technology played in our perception about art in today’s times?
It’s true that Impressionist painters could not have painted outdoors without the invention of portable paint tubes. Without silkscreen painting, Andy Warhol would not have become a legendary artist. Over the past decades, art and technology have become more intertwined than ever before — allowing more human interaction or making the process of creating art easier. Art is becoming less static and taking new shape, from painting digitally created sculptures in 3D to smartphone-created art. Art is definitely evolving. My smartphone school of art must remind people that art is omnipresent and I can draw and paint at any place where inspiration strikes me — be it on a plane, in a restaurant or in the bedroom! This form of art is revolutionising the art world gallery.

What did Shobhaa have to say about her portrait?
I was elated when Shobhaa decided to include a portrait of hers created by me for her recent book, Seventy... and to hell with it, and another full-length version of Shobhaa’s portrait titled Anuradha, which will be exhibited in my forthcoming exhibition, has been pre-sold to a savvy Indian-American Art Collector for Rs 8 lakh! Shobhaa appreciates and enjoys my paintings.

Opens January 27 TILL February 3, 11 am to 7 pm
At Gallery no 4, Jehangir Art Gallery, Kala Ghoda.
