Yoga was always considered to be the best form of exercise to maintain the overall wellbeing of a person. In the last few years, the impact of yoga and pranayam on people’s lives have seen an increase in concentration, improved sleep cycle and low levels of stress. With an ample number of benefits, the practice of yoga has grown that has given rise to many yoga practitioners and teachers. Eylin Pérez, a yoga instructor feels blessed as she explains how yoga brought a change in her life. Eylin hails from Lima, Peru and her love for yoga blossomed during the senior year of high school when she attended a Power Yoga session.

However, the first time she attended a yoga workshop was in 2001. “I remember my first yoga and meditation session was very peaceful. I never knew I would become a yoga teacher when I grow up”, she said. Much before the idea of becoming a yoga instructor, Eylin had thought of getting into the field of medicine. It, however, did not interest her which later saw her become a pastry chef. After she graduated from Le Cordon Bleu, in Peru, she realized to get into a profession that can have a positive impact on people’s lives. That’s when she decided to pursue her career as a yoga instructor.

In her journey so far, Eylin has faced a lot of ups and downs. In the initial stages, doing different asanas were a challenge. She said, “It required body flexibility. With practice, I improved my asanas, and it, in turn, boosted my confidence. My strength on a physical, emotional and spiritual level has progressed, and I feel better with each passing day.” Attending her first training of becoming a yoga teacher in 2015 saw an unfortunate incident when Eylin had to undergo two surgeries. “I suffered from endometriosis. My self-morale hit a low, but meditation and yoga kept me going. Problems did not look like problems, as it helped me in facing every obstacle with a smile”, she added.

Eylin underwent yet another ankle surgery in 2017 that kept her away from physical activities. Being in bed, it was only a calm and meditative mind that helped her overcome all her fears. With time, Pérez has learnt to be patient, and she credits yoga and meditation as the pioneers in her life. With yoga, her enthusiasm for travel saw her exploring many different countries of the world like India, Netherlands, France, Bali, the USA and Nepal. To sum it up, Eylin Pérez stated that only yoga and meditation can help everyone to go and grow through all the extreme challenges of life.
