About Earth Day
A day to honor the Earth and the concept of peace was first celebrated on March 21, 1970 after peace activist John McConnell proposed it at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco.

United States Senator Gaylord Nelson found a separate Earth Day a month later the same year on April 22, which has since been held annually in more than 192 countries worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
