'Our long-distance relationship is taking a toll...'

Dear Diana

Dear Diana,
I've been with this guy for over two years. He was a colleague at work. Eight months ago, he shifted to Hyderabad to take up a new job. We had spoken about a future together. However, the distance is taking a toll on our relationship. Both of us don't not want to leave our jobs and relocate — at least not for the next five years. As his family is based in Mumbai, I am hopeful that he will return home after a couple of years. But I do not know when this will happen. I am 28 and he is 31. Should I continue in the relationship or go my way? Initially, we used to talk several times in a day. Now we barely talk even once a week. As he is in the sales side, he is constantly travelling so unable to attend to my calls during work hours. I now feel that we are just drifting apart. The spark in our relationship is now
missing.

Dear Neerja,
If you are genuinely in love with him and care for him, geographical distance should not be a big deal. At the moment your relationship may be a bit rocky due to work pressures. If he is on the field making sales calls, he might not be able to talk to you. This does not mean that he is ignoring you or has lost interest in you. So do not think too much about this aspect. In a long-distance relationship, it is not the quantity of time spent together, but it is quality time that matters. As right now you feel alone, you think it is better to go your way. But what is stopping you from telling him what is on your mind? Tell him what you feel about the current scenario, I am sure he will give you a patient hearing. He is tied up with work, so he cannot make as many calls to you. So right now just go with the flow, when you plan to tie the knot then think of relocating.
