Mani Bhavan
Located in Gamdevi, Mani Bhavan was the epicentre of Mahatma Gandhi’s activities in Mumbai especially between 1917 to 1934 during India’s freedom struggle. Gandhiji took many of his key decisions from here and also set them into action. The first phase of the non-violent freedom struggle was launched from Mani Bhavan. Satyagraha against the Rowlatt Act was also launched from here. Mani Bhavan is a heritage building of national importance and is a tourist attraction for those who visit the city. It is open to the public on all days between 9.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m and is closed on 2nd & 4th Saturdays and public holidays. The museum entry fees are Rs. 20/- per person and Rs. 10/- for students. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya
It was formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India. The structure is a fine example of the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture and is located in south Bombay. It is one of India’s premier arts and history museums. The museum houses a collection of over 70,000 historic and artistic works of various materials and techniques. The artwork on display here reflects the evolution of humans from the stone age to contemporary times. CSMVS is a paradise for all history lovers. It is open on all days from 10:15 am to 6:00 pm. RBI Monetary Museum
Located in the Fort area of Mumbai, the museum holds permanent, temporary and itinerant exhibits of the representative coinage of India, paper currency, gold bars as well as financial instruments. It provides ample information about the evolution of money in India. It was inaugurated by former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in 2004. If you are someone who has always taken an interest in collecting currency notes and coins from different eras, the RBI Monetary Museum is just for you. CSMT Railway Heritage Museum
The museum showcases how Mumbai railways have evolved over time by displaying train models, structures and old tickets. It is located close to the CSMT railway station. If you enjoy Mumbai train travel, you must visit the museum on International Museum Day 2023 anytime between 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. It is open for all from Monday to Friday. Dr Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum
Although it is shut for a few days for maintenance purposes, this museum is definitely worth visiting. One of the oldest Museums in Mumbai, it was formerly known as Victoria and Albert Museum. The museum reflects the city’s cultural heritage and history through installations of art structures like clay models, dioramas, maps, lithographs, photographs, and rare books that showcase the people of Mumbai and the history of the city from the late eighteenth to early-twentieth centuries.
