With Guns & Gulaabs, director duo Raj-DK are set to take us back to the ’90s, reacquainting us with audio cassettes, Pepsi-Cola sticks and the forgotten charms of the decade. It’s not surprising then that the character of Gulshan Devaiah—who stars alongside Rajkummar Rao and Dulquer Salmaan in the crime thriller—has been styled in keeping with the era’s trends. Sources tell us that the actor’s avatar, complete with long hair, has been inspired by Sanjay Dutt’s look in the ’90s.

We hear the production team hired a trusted hand, who had worked extensively with Dutt during his Saajan (1991) days. A source reveals, “The Sanjay Dutt craze was at its peak in the early ’90s as he delivered hits in Thanedaar [1990], Saajan and Sadak [1991]. His long hair, signature gait and swag were popular among youngsters then, who would imitate them. So, Gulshan suggested that his character’s look be modelled on Sanjay. The idea immediately excited Raj-DK as well as the styling and make-up team.” The source adds that Devaiah, through his character, has captured the flamboyance that Dutt was known for in his heydays. The Netflix comedy crime thriller also stars Adarsh Gourav and TJ Bhanu.
