Actor Adil Hussain is currently seen in ZEE5's recently released web series, Mukhbir- The Story of a Spy. Directed by Shivam Nair and Jayprad Desai, ‘Mukhbir – The Story of a Spy’ is an inspiring story of India’s secret agent in Pakistan who rose to the occasion to save the nation and turn the tide of the war in his country’s favour. Talking about his role, Hussain said, "My role is of IPS officer Ramkishore Negi, of the intelligence bureau. The role is a very difficult one and is inspired by a true story. Thankfully, there were not many resources available and it is not in the public memory of India. So it became easier. I read quite a few things about him which are available. I met one of the relatives of this person whom I cannot name. As much as possible, it is fictionally created situations and circumstances."

Speaking about what made him say yes to the project, the actor said, "I am a big fan of spy movies. I had this kind of fascination from my childhood. I have a bias toward the force, on behalf of the underdogs. I like the stories of people who are not generally talked about. For example, in Assam, we have an amazing person named Jadav Payeng who has created a forest. No one has heard of him. Now he is coming into the limelight. And people in the intelligence community, do things very quietly and slip into oblivion and are never talked about. So this is a story about those people."

Despite it being a difficult role, the actor said that the script and the clarity provided by the directors helped him in performing the role. "The most important help that came was from the script itself; the way they have woven the script and the story was very clear and indicative and suggestive. At the same time, it was open for an actor to improvise, and allowing that to happen, facilitated the actor to do the things that the actor has been hired for in the first place. I think, what most good directors do is that they hire the right actors knowing that the actor will bring something to the table and that's like 50 percent job done and that is my understanding of casting in this last 1 and 1/2 decade that I am actively in cinema. Apart from that Shivam and Jayprad, they have been extremely gentle and allowed the actors to explore and that is the greater help."
"If the actors are well prepared, the directors are bound to trust them and thankfully we were all well prepared and not much direction happened," he added explaining that the directors did not have to instruct them every tiny detail.
