The first part, 'Chandramukhi', was released in 2005. The film was based on the Malayalam film 'Manichitrathazhu' and starred Rajinkanth and Jyotika, Prabhu, Vadivelu and Nayanthara in the lead. Directed by P Vasu, 'Chandramukhi 2' features Raghava Lawrence, Kangana Ranaut, Lakshmi Menon, Mahima Nambiar, Vadivelu, Raadhika, and Subhiksha among others. The shooting of the film was wrapped a few weeks back. The film is slated to release on Ganesh Chaturthi, which is observed on September 19.
In 'Chandramukhi 2' Kangana will portray the role of a dancer in the king's court, who was known for her beauty and dance skills. Tamil actor and filmmaker Raghava Lawrence will play the lead role opposite Kangana in the film. Kangana had recently unveiled the character poster of Raghava Lawrence from the film. In the poster, Raghava is seen in an intense avatar as he can be seen looking through a peephole in a door. Sharing the 'Chandramukhi 2' poster, Kangana confirmed that Chandramukhi is coming back this Ganesh Chaturthi.
On the work front, Kangana Ranaut will next be seen in the film 'Tejas' where she plays the role of an Air Force pilot. The film has been in the making since 2020 and will now be released on October 20, 2023. It is directed by Sarvesh Mewara.
Ranaut also has 'Emergency' in the pipeline where she plays the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film, as mentioned in the title, will be centered around the emergency period in the early 1970s. 'Emergency' marks Kangana Ranaut's first solo directorial project. Apart from Kangana, the film stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Vishak Nair and Shreyas Talpade in prominent roles. The film is expected to hit the theatres in November 24 this year.
