Actor Siddharth was recently in Bengaluru for the promotions of his upcoming Tamil film 'Chithha'. The actor was forced to leave a press conference at the city's SV theatre by members of a pro-Kannada group called Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Swabhimani Sene.

In videos doing the rounds on social media, a group of protesting men entered the venue as Siddharth was talking to the media. The protestors asked Siddharth to leave as he was promoting a Tamil film among Cauvery dispute between the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.  They also told the organisers of the press conference to end the event immediately in support of the ongoing Cauvery protest. A protester said, “We are fighting here and the Cauvery water is going to Tamil Nadu. And he is promoting the film, do you guys want this?”

While the members of the group spoke, Siddharth continued with the press conference and was seen talking to the media in Kannada. One of the protestors told the actor, "We have not come to order. We have come to request. Please stop this.” After a while, the actor got up from his chair and thanked the media members as he walked out of the press conference.

Siddharth's upcoming film also stars Nimisha Sajayan in the lead role. The recently released teaser of 'Chithha' reveals that the film will oscillate between drama and thriller genres. Siddharth's previous film, titled Takkar, was met with negative reviews and bombed at the box-office. The actor has great hopes from the film 'Chithha' on being a box office and critical success. He is also currently working on S Shankar’s 'Indian 2'.

Meanwhile, Karnataka is witnessing massive protests after Cauvery Regulatory Committee (CWRC) has ordered to release of 3000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu. Many protestors are raising slogans that Cauvery river belongs to them.

The matter has been a controversial issue between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for decades and they have been locked in battle over the sharing of water from the Cauvery river, which is a major source of irrigation and drinking water for millions of people in the region.

The Centre formed the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) on June 2, 1990, to adjudicate disputes between Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry with respect to the water-sharing capacities.
